The Browns have been evaluating their options throughout training camp and the preseason, with head coach Todd Monken indicating that the team is approaching a decision. The competition has attracted plenty of attention as Cleveland tries to establish stability at the game’s most important position.

The Browns’ situation is particularly interesting because the team isn’t simply choosing between two established veterans. Cleveland is also evaluating younger players and trying to determine who gives the offense the best chance to succeed immediately.

With the regular season approaching, every practice and preseason appearance matters. A quarterback who can consistently move the offense, protect the football and make plays under pressure could separate himself.

The decision may ultimately define Cleveland’s season before it even begins.
